The War of the Worlds, H.G. Wells (1897). Conceptual cover design, sleeve and interior design for the sci-fi classic: Unearthly creatures arrive in huge cylinders, the first is regarded as a curiosity rather than a danger until the Martians climb out of it and kill many of the gathered crowd with a unknown weapon. As the Martians manipulate two terrifying machines they are as versatile as humans and at the same time invincible. The inhabitants of Earth seem powerless, but there is one factor which the Martians have not reckoned on.
