*In the case of this cover assignment for Penguin Random House, none of the presented covers were eventually used—I’ve merely shown one of my favorites as the ‘select’ final concept. The book was to be originally marketed as a somewhat ‘adult-focused space opera’, but after some internal/test reader feedback it was decided to reposition the title in the YA (young adult) science fiction category (which would need a completely different design direction—which I was not a part of).
